Strategic Space started business in May 2007 and premiered its first three games in September 2007. Our games are:
- EASY TO LEARN -- It's only a dedicated few game players that will spend more than about ten minutes learning rules, so we design games that have as few rules as possible. The challenge should be in the game mechanics and creative strategies, not in figuring out how to play.
- HUMOROUS -- Games are supposed to be fun, so a serious tone seems incongruous. If we can get you to laugh, that is just one more way to entertain you.
- FUN TO PLAY -- There are some really obsessive types that will take an hour to set up a game. (We are okay with disappointing those players.) Fun games set up quickly, play quickly, and cause players to interact in a variety of ways, don't they?
- REASONABLY PRICED -- With a few exceptions, games are basically a deck of cards, some plastic or wooden pieces, a game board, and a rule book. Spending a lot of money on packaging and driving prices up doesn't seem worth it to us. We trust you will enjoy a simple affordable game as much or more than a flashy, expensive one.
- DIFFERENT ENOUGH IN THEMES AND MECHANICS TO APPEAL TO A WIDE AUDIENCE -- We know not everyone likes abstract strategy games, but we have one if you do. We know race games appeal to some and not others, but we have one. With our games, you can explore space, fight zombies, or maneuver the cloak-and-dagger world of spies. You can also test your memory, your spatial awareness, your mathematical skills, and more -- something for everyone!
- ADAPTABLE TO THE SKILLS AND THE TIME PLAYERS HAVE -- When you sit down to play a game, it's often someone's first time, even if it's not yours. We provide lots of rule variations so you can customize your play to the right level of skill. And some times, you only want to play a short game, some times you need to fill a whole evening, so our games can be adapted to the time you have available.
- VARIED IN GAME PLAY EVERY TIME -- A lot of games are very linear (think Life, Monopoly), and the variety comes down to some rolled dice or some shuffled cards. We think playing a game a second time should be a new challenge, not just a chance for nostalgia! With our games, you can vary the rules, and often, the playing surface or the starting positions change each time you play!
- CHALLENGING TO BOTH CHILDREN AND ADULTS PLAYING TOGETHER -- When a 35-year-old mom and her 8-year-old daughter play a board game, how often is it challenging to both of them? With our games, the answer is ALWAYS! We test all our games with children and adults and design them to have a variety of levels of strategy.
We have some games that are specifically educational, but all our games foster children's developmental skills like spatial awareness, advance planning, logic, deduction, winning and losing with grace, following directions, memory, negotiation, and cooperation.
We welcome comments on our games, especially the positive ones!
